what

The Liminophone is a programmed instrument that synchronises with tidal data from the NOAA (National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration) stations around urban waterfronts, generating algorithmic real-time compositions.
Each weather buoy becomes a polyphonic instrument, a character that changes with very subtle fluctuations every six minutes. The Liminophone interpolates the data between readings, mimicking the flow and force of a current.
The Liminophone can be programmed to read any tidal-data-gathering buoy in the NOAA network. Multiple buoys can be played at once, creating a real-time choir of waters.
Everything is in real time.
